The commemoration was the first high-profile military parade held to celebrate an occasion other than the National Day of the People's Republic of China. 12,000 troops of the People's Liberation Army participated in the parade, in addition to over 1,000 troops from 17 different countries, also about 850,000 "Citizen Guards " were mobilised to guard the city. Xi Jinping inspected the troops. Li Keqiang was the master of ceremonies and Song Puxuan was the chief commander of the parade.
